Welcome to the Audubon Insectarium, a fascinating entomology museum and insectarium located in vibrant New Orleans, Louisiana. First opened on June 13, 2008, the museum quickly gained national acclaim, earning the prestigious Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Science Center in 2009. Originally housed on the first floor of the historic U.S.
Custom House Federal Building, it spanned 23,000 square feet and held the title of the largest free-standing American museum dedicated entirely to insects. There, visitors could explore more than 50 live exhibits alongside numerous engaging multimedia elements. Following a temporary closure in September 2020 due to revenue shortages caused by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum underwent an exciting transition. On June 8, 2023, it officially reopened in its new location at the site of the Audubon Aquarium.
