Step into the world of renowned Flemish composer and musical educational theorist Peter Benoit (1834–1901) at the Peter Benoit Huis in Harelbeke, West Flanders, Belgium. Founded by local composer Paul Vandebuerie, who collected a large portion of the museum's items, this unique destination offers an engaging look into a fascinating musical legacy.

Redesigned in 2001 as an experience museum, the site stages Benoit’s life story from the distinct perspectives of five influential women: his mother Rosalie Monie, Julie Zoë Pfotzer, his wife Flore Wantzel, his artistic inspiration Constance Teichmann, and his final love Agnes Mertens. As you wander through the exhibits, you will hear music written by Benoit and his fellow composers, including his famous piece 'Phantasy 3,' which served for years as the closing melody for the BRT broadcast.

You can also view a dedicated film or research his musical legacy within the on-site library, home to a vast collection of 4,000 folk songs and written works. Just steps away, you can tour Benoit's small birth house to truly appreciate the poor circumstances from which this extraordinary Flemish icon emerged.
