The parish traces its origin back to the Qianlong Era of the Qing Dynasty, when local Catholics met at a merchant's residence, followed by an 1866 church known as the Hall of the Fishing Boats.

The current building was begun in 1893 under French priest Joseph Deffond. Today, you will see remarkable architectural hybridity using local Suzhou construction methods. Its exterior features a westwork crafted in the traditional style of a paifang, alongside pillars made of bricks on the outside and wood on the inside.

Step inside to admire a European open timber roof structure, as well as an IHS Christogram, vibrant stained glass, icons, Corinthian capitals, and stone arches added during past renovations. Beyond the main structure, you can explore the surrounding greeneries and traditional gallery added in 2000.
