Welcome to the Changchun Confucius Temple, an authentic historic sanctuary nestled in the Nanguan District of Changchun, Jilin, People's Republic of China. Originally constructed in 1872 through donations from a gentleman named Zhu Chen, this site offers travelers an inspiring look into traditional Qing dynasty building principles and classic architectural styles. Over the decades, the complex underwent several renovations—including work overseen by Changchun magistrates Yang Tonggui, who built the Wenchang Pavilion in 1894, and Zhao Pengdi, who raised funds to restore and redecorate it in 1924.
Though partially demolished when used as a primary schoolhouse, the site gained municipal and provincial cultural heritage protections in the 1980s, followed by the rebuilding of the Wenchang Pavilion in 2008. As you walk through the grounds today, you will encounter impressive features including the Zhaobi (screen wall), Panchi pool, Panqiao bridge, along with a dedicated Bell tower and Drum tower. Further along, you can admire the iconic Gate of Lingxing, Gate of Dacheng, and the Hall of Kuixing.
The complex also houses the Hall of Dacheng, Hall of Chongsheng, side halls, and the reconstructed Wenchang Pavilion, making it a compelling stop for anyone interested in regional Chinese heritage.
