Step into history at the Majestic Theatre, a performing arts theater located in the City Center District of Downtown Dallas. As the last surviving remnant of Elm Street's historic Theater Row, this Renaissance Revival structure opened in 1921 as a vaudeville house before transitioning to host movie premieres, big bands, and legendary stars like Houdini, Mae West, and Duke Ellington. Today, as a Dallas Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it serves as a venue for musical productions, dramatic plays, dance, concerts, and national pageants.
When you visit, you will encounter a grand baroque-style interior richly decorated with Corinthian columns, egg-and-dart molding, cartouches, and 23K gold leaf accents. Walk across the black-and-white Italian-style Vermont marble floor in the lobby, framed by twin marble staircases and crystal chandeliers. Inside the auditorium, take in the ornate ceiling, box seating, and expanded orchestra pit.
Originally featuring a mechanically controlled star-filled ceiling and a Kilgen theater organ, the restored theater comfortably seats 1,570 guests, blending its storied past with modern performing arts experiences.
