When you visit Salzburg, Austria, you will find the Church of the Holy Trinity (Dreifaltigkeitskirche), a stunning Roman Catholic landmark commissioned by Prince Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun and built between 1694 and 1702. As the first Salzburg structure designed by legendary architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, this sprawling central building was modeled after Rome's Roman Catholic architecture, including Borromini's Sant'Agnese in Agone. From the elevated forecourt facing Dreifaltigkeitsgasse at Makart Square, you will notice a palatial facade framed by seminary wings, complete with twin columns bearing sculpted statues of Faith, Hope, Love, and Divine Wisdom.

Step inside the longitudinal oval room to feel the monumental presence created by its simple design and towering drum dome. Looking up, you will behold Johann Michael Rottmayr's monumental dome fresco, Coronation of the Virgin, depicting saints, angels, ten holy popes, and the Holy Spirit dove in concentrically arranged clouds. Explore the high altar created in 1700 with its sculpted Trinity group and adoring angels, along with side altars housing life-size figures and a sixteenth-century Marie miraculous image set within an ornate Baroque frame.
