On August 9, 1955, Lake Lorna Doone Park hosted the first integrated Little League Baseball game ever played in the American South during the Florida State Tournament. While other states resisted integration following Supreme Court rulings, City of Orlando and state officials cooperated to ensure the game proceeded peacefully, with hometown crowds cheering the visiting Pensacola Jaycees.
