Nestled in the Rockland neighborhood of Victoria, British Columbia, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria offers a captivating blend of historic architecture and exceptional art. The museum complex spans 2,474.5 square metres, seamlessly combining the Victorian-style Spencer Mansion—built in 1889 and restored to its striking original dark red, dark green, and pale salmon exterior—with a modernist wing of seven Exhibition Galleries. As home to the largest art collection in British Columbia with approximately 20,000 works in its permanent holdings, this destination gives you an intimate look at art from Canadian, indigenous Canadian, and Pacific Rim artists.

While space limits display to about five percent of its holdings at any time, you can explore diverse departments spanning Canadian, contemporary, decorative, and Asian art. You will encounter incredible highlights, including Canada's second-largest Asian art collection featuring ceramics, bronzes, textiles, and a restored Japanese gold leaf byōbu by Kanō Sanraku. Outside, do not miss the serene Asian garden, which houses the only Meiji era Shinto shrine in North America.

Inside Spencer Mansion, you can admire original 19th-century woodworking, ornate tiles, and a fireplace, or pop into the first-floor gift shop and art rental office during your visit.
