When you explore Cali, Colombia, you should take time to experience the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cali or simply Cali Cathedral. As the mother church of the city and the official seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cali, this historic landmark holds immense religious and cultural importance. Recognized as an Architectural Heritage site of Cali, the cathedral was officially declared a National Monument of Colombia on March 12, 1982.

As you admire the structure, you will appreciate its fascinating mix of architectural influences. Construction initially began in the Baroque style under the design of architect Antonio García, with parish priest José Rivera laying the first stone on September 1, 1772. Local prison inmates provided the labor to build the historic walls. Although most of the building was finished by 1802, political problems delayed the completion of the tower.

Work finally concluded in 1841 following elegant neoclassical lines. Today, visiting this landmark allows you to marvel at a monument that blends rich regional history, distinct architectural styles, and deep spiritual heritage in the heart of Cali.
