Located in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, the Fries Museum (Frisian Museum) offers you a deep dive into local arts, crafts, and history ranging from 1200 to 2000. Originally founded in 1881 to exhibit artifacts gathered by a local culture preservation society, the museum eventually moved into a modern facility on Wilhelminaplein designed by Hubert-Jan Henket, which was officially opened by Queen Máxima in 2013. The museum's excellence has even earned it the Global Fine Art Award, often nicknamed the Museum-Oscar.

Inside, you will find a vast collection of one million objects, with around 8,000 items currently on display. As you explore, you will discover iconic treasures such as the Hindelooper Room, the Popta Treasure filled with Frisian silverware, and the legendary sword of Grote Pier. You can also visit the Mata Hari hall, dedicated to the famous Leeuwarden-born dancer and spy, or view the largest collection of works by late 16th-century portrait painter Adriaen van Cronenburg.

Paintings by notable artists like Wigerus Vitringa, Wybrand de Geest, Eelke Jelles Eelkema, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Gerrit Benner, and Jan Mankes round out this impressive regional showcase.
