Pumarejo bridge 🇨🇴

When you visit Barranquilla, Colombia, you can marvel at the impressive Pumarejo bridge, an engineering feat spanning the Río Magdalena and connecting the city to the Salamanca Island Road Park in Sitionuevo and the eastern part of the country. Opened on December 20, 2019, this massive cable-stayed structure stands as the longest road bridge in Colombia, stretching 2,250 meters on its own and reaching a total length of 3,237 meters including its long driveways.

As you explore the area, you will notice its grand design featuring a width of 38.1 meters, six traffic lanes, dedicated side bike paths, and central stay cables anchored to two central pylon poles. Named after former regional politician Alberto Mario Pumarejo Vengoechea, the bridge replaces a narrower two-lane structure built in 1974.

With a clearance below of 45 meters, it allows large handysize freighters up to 15,000 tons to navigate into inland ports across the Magdalena River. While taking in views of the river, you can also see the old closed bridge situated just a few meters north, which is being considered as a potential future tourist attraction.
