You will find the historic Baralt Theatre situated in downtown Maracaibo, Venezuela, at the northwestern corner of Plaza Bolívar. As a major national cultural institution and designated National Monument, this venue holds a legendary place in history as the site of the country's very first film screenings. Originally established as a small performance hall in the mid-19th century, the site underwent several rebuilds before reopening in 1932 with its impressive current structure designed by Leon Jerome Hoet.
When you visit, you can admire an eye-catching exterior featuring Art Nouveau elements, large relief arches, iron detailing, zinc gable roofing, and decorative concrete lattice grilles designed to keep the building cool. Step inside to discover a magnificent 3,000-capacity hall split into stalls and a raised circle, complemented by a public area with a smoking section and restaurant. The interior showcases breathtaking Art Deco paintings, frescoes, and light fixtures created by Zulian artist Antonio Angulo, along with a historical stage curtain donated by the Spanish government.
During restoration, original foundations were preserved and integrated into a unique basement entrance featuring mosaic-style lower hall floors. Whether attending an event or taking a tour, you will experience a true cornerstone of Venezuelan heritage.
