Shanghai Pudong International Airport is located about 30 kilometers east of Shanghai's city center on a 40-square-kilometer coastal site in eastern Pudong. Serving as the city's primary international gateway, it handles significant international passenger traffic alongside extensive cargo operations. Operated by the Shanghai Airport Authority, it stands as the busiest international gateway in mainland China and one of the highest-volume airports across Asia and the world.

The airport currently operates two main passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, complemented by an H-shaped satellite terminal divided into halls S1 and S2. Terminal 2 is primarily utilized by Air China and other Star Alliance members, while Terminal 1 serves key hub carriers like China Eastern Airlines. An underground automated people mover seamlessly transports passengers between Terminal 1 and Hall S1, as well as Terminal 2 and Hall S2.

Terminal 1

Opened on October 1, 1999, Terminal 1 serves primary hub operations for carriers like China Eastern Airlines. It connects directly to satellite hall S1 via an underground automated people mover.

Terminal 2
Star Alliance

Opened on March 26, 2008, Terminal 2 features a wave-like structure that is slightly larger than Terminal 1. It is primarily used by Air China and fellow Star Alliance member airlines.

Lost, delayed or damaged baggage at PVG

If your checked bag doesn't turn up on the belt, act before you leave the baggage-claim area — that's where every airline keeps its Baggage Service Office.

  1. Go to your airline's Baggage Service Office in the baggage-claim hall of your arrival terminal.
  2. File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and get your file reference (WorldTracer) number. Keep your bag-tag receipt and boarding pass.
  3. Track it online using that reference on your airline's baggage-tracking page — most bags are located within 24–48 hours.
  4. Claim your essentials. On delayed bags airlines reimburse reasonable interim purchases (toiletries, clothing) — keep receipts. International trips are covered by the Montreal Convention.
  5. If it's truly lost (generally after 21 days) or damaged, file the claim at the same office — damage must be reported before you leave the airport.

Left something in the terminal (not a checked bag)? That's handled by the airport Lost & Found. Items left at a TSA security checkpoint are held by the TSA, not the airline.
