Located at Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando, Magic Kingdom Park opened on October 1, 1971. Initiated by Walt Disney and designed by WED Enterprises, construction was completed under Roy Disney following Walt's death in 1966. Owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company through its Experiences division, the park was built as a larger version of California's Disneyland. Elevated on a second story over subterranean utility tunnels called utilidors, the park opened alongside Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
Spanning 107 acres, Magic Kingdom features a hub-and-spoke layout centered around Cinderella Castle, the park's iconic fairy-tale landmark. Six themed lands radiate from the central hub: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. The 1.5-mile Walt Disney World Railroad circles the park's perimeter, passing through various themed areas. An upcoming Villains Land and expanded sections in Frontierland are planned, while historically the park once hosted Mickey's Toontown Fair before its major expansion into Storybook Circus and Fantasyland Forest.
As the most visited theme park in the world, hosting 17.83 million visitors in 2024, Magic Kingdom offers iconic dark rides, thrill coasters, and family shows. Major attractions include Space Mountain, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise. Guests can enjoy character dining at Be Our Guest Restaurant or watch Audio-Animatronic presentations like The Hall of Presidents. Designed for visitors of all ages, access requires traveling across Seven Seas Lagoon from the Transportation and Ticket Center via ferry or monorail.
