Located in the Djursland region of Denmark, Djurs Sommerland sits just north of the village of Nimtofte. It is situated 23 kilometers west of Grenaa and 36 kilometers east of Randers, placing it in a popular Jylland vacation area. Established in 1981 by hotelier Børge Godsk Jensen and music agent Ole B. Nielsen, the park has expanded progressively every year and is currently operated by Nielsen's sons, Henrik and Michael, with Henrik B. Nielsen serving as CEO.
Spanning eight themed areas, the park includes the original Sommerland section, Bondegårdsland, Westernland, Mexicoland, Piratland, Vikingeland, Dinosaurland, and the Vandland water park. Admission grants access to all areas. Djurs Sommerland is Denmark's fifth largest tourist attraction, welcoming around 800,000 visitors annually. It became a must-visit destination following the 2008 debut of Piraten, which was named the fifth best roller coaster in the world immediately after opening and held the title of Denmark's fastest coaster until 2022.
The park offers a broad collection of roller coasters, thrill rides like the El Grito drop tower, family rides, kiddie play zones, and water rides. It also features Denmark's first park-integrated water park, Vandland, which opened in 1986. Djurs Sommerland primarily caters to families with kids and teenagers, continually adapting its attractions to remain accessible across various heights and ages.
