Why San Diego

San Diego is a town and the municipal capital located in Carabobo State, Venezuela, situated to the north of Valencia Lake and to the northwest of Valencia City. Historically serving as the hub of a surrounding agricultural area, the community has experienced rapid expansion. Over time, urban developments have transformed former agricultural lands, and the service sector has replaced farming as the primary economic driver.

The town lies within the Valencia Lake basin on sedimentary terrain well-suited for agriculture. Flowing down from the mountains to the north, the San Diego River passes directly through the municipality as it travels toward Valencia Lake. Data from the 2011 census recorded the municipal population at approximately 93,257 residents.

Visitors to San Diego can explore historical features near the center of town. The local church showcases well-preserved colonial design, and the traditional architecture of the surrounding area around Bolívar Square has also been maintained.

Another point of interest is Pozo la Cumaca and its associated waterfall, where visitors can escape the heat beside a clear river featuring a large swimming hole and an upstream cascade. The site offers amenities for visitors, though reaching it requires an all-terrain vehicle, and access to the upper waterfall area requires permission from a park ranger.
