Why Chuadanga

Chuadanga is an administrative town situated in the western region of Bangladesh. Positioned along the banks of the Mathabhanga River, it serves as the primary center for both Chuadanga Sadar Upazila and the broader Chuadanga District. Historically significant, the settlement holds the distinction of being the initial capital of Bangladesh.

Originally designated as a sub-district within the Kushtia District, the area officially attained full district status in 1984. Transportation history was made here in 1862 when the town became the location of the nation's very first railway station. Today, it remains linked to other regions of the country through an established network of roads and rail lines.

The town maintains several well-known educational institutions with deep local roots. Among its notable secondary institutions are the Victoria Jubilee Government High School, established in 1880, and the Chuadanga Government Girls' High School, which opened in 1914. Other secondary options include the Chuadanga Academy and Rahela Khatun Girls Academy, while higher learning is provided by Chuadanga Government College, founded in 1962.

Demographic data from the 2022 national census recorded the population of the town at 97,532 residents, reflecting steady growth from the 85,786 inhabitants counted in 2011. Visitors to the area will find a historic riverine town defined by its civic role, educational heritage, and foundational place in Bangladesh's transit network.
