Why Musumba
Musumba is a large town located in the Lualaba Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is historically notable as the former capital of the Lunda Kingdom, a major regional power whose traditional customs and practices continue to endure within the settlement today.
The town's historic significance grew significantly during the mid-eighteenth century. As the Lunda Empire expanded across the region throughout the 1730s, 1740s, and 1750s, considerable populations from surrounding areas were relocated to Musumba, shaping its cultural development.
In addition to its royal heritage, Musumba is recognized as the birthplace of Moïse Tshombe, a prominent Congolese politician and businessman who played a role in the nation's mid-twentieth-century political history.
