Why Sidi Slimane

Sidi Slimane is a small city situated in the northwestern inland area of Morocco, within the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra administrative region. Situated between the larger urban hubs of Kenitra and Meknes, it functions as the capital seat for the surrounding Sidi Slimane Province.

Historically, the city's population has grown through significant rural migration, expanding from over 78,000 residents in 2004 to nearly 93,000 by 2014. Despite its growth, the municipality experiences ongoing social and economic difficulties, including high rates of illiteracy, unemployment, and informal housing settlements.

The local economy is fundamentally anchored in agriculture, with the region gaining wide recognition for the quality of its citrus production. In addition to its farming sector, the area hosts the Sidi Slimane Air Base, a facility utilized by the Moroccan Air Force.

Within the city, notable focal points include a central district locally referred to as filaj—a term derived from the French word for village—alongside a municipal public library, three high schools, and a sports arena named the Hassania stadium. Sidi Slimane is also connected to the broader national transport network via a stop on the main railway line running between Kenitra and Oujda.
