Fujairah City serves as the capital of the Emirate of Fujairah and ranks as the seventh-largest urban center in the United Arab Emirates. Positioned along the Gulf of Oman on the west coast of the Indian Ocean, it holds the distinction of being the sole Emirati capital situated on the eastern shoreline of the country. Resting at the base of the Hajar Mountains, the city acts as a major commercial and industrial hub that offers direct access to the Indian Ocean without requiring maritime traffic to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Visitors can explore several historical and cultural landmarks within the city. The restored Fujairah Fort offers a look into the region's heritage, while the nearby Fujairah Museum displays archaeological discoveries spanning from the sixth millennium BC to more recent Islamic eras, featuring ancient weapons, jewelry, ceramics, and an ostrich egg dating back to 2,500 BC. Close to Madhab Spring Park, the Fujairah Heritage Village showcases regional traditions. In the city center, the vast white Sheikh Zayed Mosque stands as a prominent landmark capable of accommodating around 28,000 worshippers, making it the second-largest mosque in the nation.
The city features dynamic coastal and commercial districts, with tall office towers lining Hamad Bin Abdulla Road, its primary avenue. Shopping options are available at modern complexes such as City Centre Fujairah, LuLu Mall, Fujairah Mall, and Century Mall, alongside traditional venues like the Central Market, Fabric Souk, and Fish & Vegetable Market. Along the seafront, visitors find the Fujairah Corniche, the Fujairah International Marine Club, and Fujairah Beach. On Friday afternoons, public bullfighting events take place, where pairs of bulls engage by locking horns without matadors or fatal outcomes.
Economic and industrial infrastructure includes the Port of Fujairah, established in 1978, the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, and specialized business hubs such as the Fujairah Free Zone and Creative City. Accommodations are predominantly clustered along Al Corniche Road and Hamad Bin Abdulla Road. Travel to and from the city is facilitated by the Sheikh Khalifa Expressway connecting to Dubai and other emirates, while Fujairah International Airport handles cargo alongside select passenger routes. Additionally, passenger train services via Etihad Rail connect Fujairah Station to other regions in the United Arab Emirates.
Fujairah experiences a hot desert climate marked by minimal annual rainfall, which averages around 120 millimeters primarily between December and March. Summer months are extremely hot, with daily maximum temperatures typically reaching around 41 °C accompanied by high humidity, whereas winter conditions are considerably milder, averaging near 25 °C.
