Why Novovolynsk
Novovolynsk is a city situated in the Volyn Oblast of northwestern Ukraine. Covering an area of roughly 17 square kilometers, it serves as the center of the Novovolynsk urban hromada, which also encompasses the rural settlement of Blahodatne alongside six local villages.
Positioned in the southwestern portion of its oblast, the city enjoys a strategically advantageous geographic location near international borders. It lies approximately 15 kilometers east of the national border with Poland and 92 kilometers south of the border with Belarus.
The settlement was established in 1950 during the Soviet era as a specialized mining community within the Lviv-Volyn coal basin, officializing its status as a city in 1957. Its name translates to "a new town in the Volyn region." Historically serving as a primary regional coal extraction hub, its local economy also developed around diverse manufacturing facilities, including a ferroconcrete works, a brick factory, a mining equipment maintenance plant, a woodworking facility, a meatpacking plant, and a bakery.
Visitors to Novovolynsk can view local urban landmarks, including a monument dedicated to the prominent Ukrainian poet and artist Taras Shevchenko. The city is also recognized as the birthplace of professional footballer Artem Fedetskyi.
Travelers accessing the city can utilize regional roadway networks. Novovolynsk is located 18 kilometers from the H22 national highway, which connects Ustyluh, Lutsk, and Rivne. Additionally, it sits 76 kilometers from the E373 international highway (coinciding with the M07 route), facilitating transit toward major centers such as Warsaw, Lublin, Kovel, and Kyiv.
