Why Zduńska Wola

Zduńska Wola is a city located in central Poland within the Łódź Voivodeship, serving as the administrative seat of Zduńska Wola County. Home to over 40,000 residents, the city historically grew into one of the country's prominent manufacturing hubs for cotton, linen, and cloth weaving. It is also recognized as the birthplace of cosmetics pioneer Max Factor and the Catholic priest Saint Maximilian Kolbe.

First recorded in historical documents in 1394, Zduńska Wola was positioned along a major European trade route linking eastern and western territories. Initially a noble-owned settlement in the historical Sieradz Voivodeship, the town came under the ownership of the Złotnicki family in the early 18th century. Its trajectory shifted significantly in the 1800s with the arrival of weavers from Śląsk, Bohemia, and Saxony. After attaining official town status in 1825, Zduńska Wola expanded rapidly, incorporating surrounding settlements to accommodate incoming workers and private workshops.

By the turn of the 20th century, Zduńska Wola had evolved into an industrial center nicknamed the "City of Weavers." Key developments during this period included the construction of a steam brewery in 1892, the creation of new worker housing, and the opening of the city's first public park. Transport infrastructure improved further with rail connections to Łódź, Kalisz, and later the Baltic port of Gdynia. Despite suffering severe human loss and physical destruction during World War II, the city was rebuilt in the post-war period, restoring its role in textile production before expanding into a service-oriented economy in recent years.
