Prignitz District 🇪🇸

Welcome to Prignitz, a historic district located in northwestern Brandenburg in northeastern Germany. Defined in part by the Elbe River forming its southwestern border, this peaceful region carries a rich history dating back to the 13th century when eleven original districts—including Wittenberge, Lenzen, Perleberg, Putlitz, Kyritz, Wittstock, and Pritzwalk—were established.

Historically serving as a buffer between Brandenburg and Mecklenburg, Prignitz saw significant German settlement following the First Wendish Crusade of 1147. When you visit, you explore an area shaped by noble families, former robber barons like the Gans zu Putlitz family, and historical conflicts such as the uprising put down at the battle of the Cremmer Dam.
