Located five miles southwest of downtown Anchorage, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport serves as Alaska's primary commercial airport. Encompassing 4,608 acres at 151 feet above sea level, it operates three runways and a helipad. Beyond handling regional and national passenger travel, the facility stands as one of the world's busiest cargo hubs, connecting trans-Pacific cargo operations between Asia and the contiguous United States.

Passenger operations are divided between two main facilities: the South Terminal and the North Terminal. The South Terminal manages domestic flights across Concourses A, B, and C, hosting carriers like Alaska Airlines, Delta, and United. The North Terminal handles international arrivals, seasonal international charters, and military flights. Ground transport options include the People Mover bus route 40 to downtown Anchorage, taxis, rental cars, and seasonal summer rail connections.

Lost, delayed or damaged baggage at ANC

If your checked bag doesn't turn up on the belt, act before you leave the baggage-claim area — that's where every airline keeps its Baggage Service Office.

  1. Go to your airline's Baggage Service Office in the baggage-claim hall of your arrival terminal.
  2. File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and get your file reference (WorldTracer) number. Keep your bag-tag receipt and boarding pass.
  3. Track it online using that reference on your airline's baggage-tracking page — most bags are located within 24–48 hours.
  4. Claim your essentials. On delayed bags airlines reimburse reasonable interim purchases (toiletries, clothing) — keep receipts. International trips are covered by the Montreal Convention.
  5. If it's truly lost (generally after 21 days) or damaged, file the claim at the same office — damage must be reported before you leave the airport.

Left something in the terminal (not a checked bag)? That's handled by the airport Lost & Found. Items left at a TSA security checkpoint are held by the TSA, not the airline.
