Located 10 miles south of Downtown Atlanta, Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport covers 4,700 acres and serves as the primary international gateway for the Atlanta metropolitan area. The airport features five parallel east-west runways, allowing for simultaneous landings and efficient flight movements across its vast facilities.
Consistently ranked among the world's busiest airports, Hartsfield–Jackson served 106.3 million passengers in 2025. It acts as the mega-hub for Delta Air Lines and hosts corporate headquarters and maintenance operations for the carrier. Low-cost airlines Frontier and Southwest also use the airport as an operating base, providing domestic and international connectivity.
The airport layout is organized into two primary passenger buildings: the Domestic Terminal on the west side and the Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal on the east side. Between them, seven parallel concourses handle domestic flights, regional carriers, and international routes to North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia.
01 Terminals & concourses
Located on the west side of the airport complex, this facility serves domestic travelers across multiple concourses. It provides direct connection to MARTA rail service and includes facilities originally constructed in the 1980 midfield terminal expansion.
Situated on the east side of the airport complex, this terminal opened in 2012 to handle international arrivals and departures. Its opening streamlined customs processing by allowing international passengers arriving in Atlanta to exit directly without re-clearing security.

Lost, delayed or damaged baggage at ATL
If your checked bag doesn't turn up on the belt, act before you leave the baggage-claim area — that's where every airline keeps its Baggage Service Office.
- Go to your airline's Baggage Service Office in the baggage-claim hall of your arrival terminal.
- File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and get your file reference (WorldTracer) number. Keep your bag-tag receipt and boarding pass.
- Track it online using that reference on your airline's baggage-tracking page — most bags are located within 24–48 hours.
- Claim your essentials. On delayed bags airlines reimburse reasonable interim purchases (toiletries, clothing) — keep receipts. International trips are covered by the Montreal Convention.
- If it's truly lost (generally after 21 days) or damaged, file the claim at the same office — damage must be reported before you leave the airport.
Left something in the terminal (not a checked bag)? That's handled by the airport Lost & Found. Items left at a TSA security checkpoint are held by the TSA, not the airline.
