Located roughly 3 miles southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale and 21 miles north of Miami, Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) serves as a primary intercontinental gateway for South Florida. Bounded by Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Dania Beach, the major hub airport covers 1,380 acres off several major highways, operating over 700 daily flights across domestic and international destinations.

FLL is currently organized into four active passenger terminals containing 67 total gates, with a fifth terminal under construction. Serving as a base for Allegiant Air and JetBlue, and the primary South Florida airport for Southwest Airlines, the facility distributes its domestic and international carrier operations across distinct terminal buildings connected by concourses and walkways.

Lost, delayed or damaged baggage at FLL

If your checked bag doesn't turn up on the belt, act before you leave the baggage-claim area — that's where every airline keeps its Baggage Service Office.

  1. Go to your airline's Baggage Service Office in the baggage-claim hall of your arrival terminal.
  2. File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and get your file reference (WorldTracer) number. Keep your bag-tag receipt and boarding pass.
  3. Track it online using that reference on your airline's baggage-tracking page — most bags are located within 24–48 hours.
  4. Claim your essentials. On delayed bags airlines reimburse reasonable interim purchases (toiletries, clothing) — keep receipts. International trips are covered by the Montreal Convention.
  5. If it's truly lost (generally after 21 days) or damaged, file the claim at the same office — damage must be reported before you leave the airport.

Left something in the terminal (not a checked bag)? That's handled by the airport Lost & Found. Items left at a TSA security checkpoint are held by the TSA, not the airline.
