Situated on the reclaimed island of Chek Lap Kok in western Hong Kong, Hong Kong International Airport serves as a major global aviation hub. Operating 24 hours a day, this expansive facility connects travellers to over 180 worldwide cities. The airport is the primary operational base for home carriers like Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express, Greater Bay Airlines, and Air Hong Kong, alongside Oneworld alliance connections.
Passenger operations revolve around the massive Terminal 1—one of the largest airport terminal buildings in the world—and the expanded new Terminal 2. Travellers navigate between the main terminal, the T1 Satellite Concourse via an elevated glass-sided Sky Bridge, and the Midfield Concourse using an underground automated people mover system. The airport features three operational runways to smoothly handle heavy international flight schedules.
01 Terminals & concourses
Measuring 570,000 square metres, Terminal 1 is one of the world's largest passenger terminal buildings. It connects to the T1 Satellite Concourse via a elevated Sky Bridge and to the Midfield Concourse via an underground automated people mover.
Reopened on 27 May 2026 after a major expansion, Terminal 2 serves as an entry and exit facility connecting passengers to the Third Runway concourse, Sky Bridge ferry transfers, and regional bridge links.

Lost, delayed or damaged baggage at HKG
If your checked bag doesn't turn up on the belt, act before you leave the baggage-claim area — that's where every airline keeps its Baggage Service Office.
- Go to your airline's Baggage Service Office in the baggage-claim hall of your arrival terminal.
- File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and get your file reference (WorldTracer) number. Keep your bag-tag receipt and boarding pass.
- Track it online using that reference on your airline's baggage-tracking page — most bags are located within 24–48 hours.
- Claim your essentials. On delayed bags airlines reimburse reasonable interim purchases (toiletries, clothing) — keep receipts. International trips are covered by the Montreal Convention.
- If it's truly lost (generally after 21 days) or damaged, file the claim at the same office — damage must be reported before you leave the airport.
Left something in the terminal (not a checked bag)? That's handled by the airport Lost & Found. Items left at a TSA security checkpoint are held by the TSA, not the airline.
02 Getting to & from HKG
