Visit to the Aquadom Berlin, the huge aquarium in a business hotel that can be accessed by elevator. You can even get married here in the Aquadom at special locations in Berlin. It should no longer be the registry office in Berlin – but a special place, such as the TV tower at Alexanderplatz, on a romantic trip on the Spree or in the dome at the Reichstag – that is certainly possible, but with 1,500 fish in the aquarium as witnesses and not getting wet, that is certainly a special moment.

Aquadom Berlin – Huge Aquarium with an Elevator in the Hotel
It was a surprise during my hotel tour of the Radisson Hotel Blu Berlin on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße that, together with the adjoining Sealife, there is also the possibility of finding a special location for a wedding in Berlin. I would have previously imagined a romantic wedding in Berlin by the lake or on a ship on the Spree, or just a somewhat “boring” wedding in one of Berlin’s registry offices (such as Pankow, Schöneberg or Mitte).
However, what I found out during the hotel tour was much more interesting and would have been a special experience for the wedding guests. The Radisson Blu Hotel, together with the Sea Life Center and Union Investment (owner of the Aquadom), offers the opportunity to rent and use the Aquadom for special events. First, the wedding ceremony with a few guests in the elevator, organized by the registry office Berlin Mitte, and then the reception in the Dom Lounge of the hotel with a fantastic view over Berlin.
I was told that this is a great location for divers who don’t want to take all their family members to the Caribbean for their wedding: first the official wedding in Berlin in the Aquadom at Sealife, and then the “private” wedding in the Caribbean or the Maldives, Seychelles or another diving paradise.

Glass elevator – 1 million liters of salt water – 2000 tons of weight
But the wonderful glass cylinder in the Radisson is not only suitable for weddings, but also for a regular trip and exploration of the more than 1,500 fish from 97 species. The cylinder alone is worth seeing when looking at the lobby of the Radisson Blu Berlin and cannot actually be overlooked. However, there are still guests who stand in front of the reception and ask where the large glass aquarium is, not realizing that it starts right above them. 🙂
The acrylic glass cylinder of the Aquadom has a diameter of 11 meters, a height of 16 meters and, with the frame, is a total of 25 meters high. The cylinder was manufactured at a secret location and brought in one piece over the roof of the then newly built Radisson Blu Hotel in Dom Aquarée. It is definitely a sight worth seeing.

Opening hours – admission prices – discounts
Sealife Berlin with the Aquadom has the following opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm, with the last admission at 6 pm at the main entrance. Online admission prices start at €11.50 and rise to €17.95 at the main entrance. Hotel guests of the Radisson Blu Hotel can purchase discounted tickets at the hotel reception that allow direct access to Sealife.
For visitors to Berlin who want to experience a little more of the capital, there are also combination discount tickets, in conjunction with Madame Tussauds, Legoland Discovery Center or the Berlin Dungeon. Be sure to check the website of Sealife in Berlin in advance to get the discounts.

Conclusion Aquadom Berlin and Sealife Berlin – Huge Aquarium with Elevator in the Hotel
In my opinion, the Sealife and the Aquadom as the Berlin Aquarium are an absolute must-see, which is very suitable for both individuals and families with children. A good combination is to start early in the morning with the Sealife, then enjoy an original Berlin currywurst at HEat directly on the Spree with a view of the Berlin Cathedral, and then take a 1-hour round trip on the Spree. (Meeting point directly in front of HEAT at the Radisson Blu Berlin Hotel).
If you are looking for the Aquadom and Sealife as a wedding location in Berlin, you will surely find an extraordinary location and many opportunities for great photos, whether in the glass elevator with fish in the background or later in the Domlounge with a view over Berlin to the TV tower on Alexanderplatz. It is a wonderful experience to take a ride in a round elevator through a glass aquarium.

Update: On December 16, 2022, the Aquadom, the large aquarium in Berlin, burst and the newly opened, luxury-oriented Radisson Collection Hotel was then closed completely. There are no plans to rebuild the 16-meter-high aquarium. 630 of the 1500 fish were saved after one million liters of salt water flowed through the lobby, restaurant and lower levels of the hotel and adjacent shops, as well as the underground car park. The assumption is that the problem was material fatigue.
