When you explore Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, you can visit the Al-Serkal Mosque (known in Khmer as វិហារឥស្លាមអាល់សឺកាល់), which serves as the main mosque in the city. If you are interested in local religious landmarks, this destination offers a unique glimpse into the capital's heritage. Situated north of the town center, you will find it located near the area of Boeung Kak lake, a body of water that is now dry.

As you learn about its history, you will discover that the original structure opened back in 1968 as a thoughtful gift from the Al Serkal family, an Emirati family. While that historic original building was demolished in 2012, a new building was constructed to take its place. This modern replacement was a gift of the United Arab Emirates, officially opening its doors to visitors and worshippers in 2014.

When visiting, you can see this prominent new mosque building and reflect on the longstanding diplomatic and cultural generosity between the United Arab Emirates and Cambodia. It stands as a notable sight north of Phnom Penh for travelers seeking to experience the capital's important religious sites.
