ArtScience Museum 🇸🇬

Located within the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort in Singapore's Downtown Core, the ArtScience Museum is the largest private museum in the country. Officially opened in February 2011 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the institution focuses on exploring the intersections between art, science, culture, and technology. In late 2025, the museum announced a collaboration with the creative agency Project 3 to assist with rebranding and upcoming programming.

The facility is widely recognized for its distinctive architectural form, designed by Moshe Safdie to resemble a lotus flower. Supported by an internal steel lattice and clad in fiber-reinforced plastic, the structure features a circular central base surrounded by ten extending structures, often referred to as fingers. Each extension houses gallery spaces with skylights at the tips to naturally illuminate the interior's curved walls. The building also incorporates sustainable engineering, collecting rainwater through its bowl-shaped roof and channeling it down into a ground-level reflecting pond, where the water is recycled for use in the restrooms.

Inside, the museum encompasses 21 distinct gallery spaces covering approximately 6,000 square meters. The venue generally operates two or three exhibitions at the same time, combining temporary touring shows from global institutions with a permanent display. The central permanent attraction, titled Future World, was developed alongside the art collective teamLab and occupies much of the lower gallery level.

Visitors to the museum can experience a range of exhibits spanning various media, design, and scientific themes. Historical and artistic achievements on display have included representations of Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine, a Kongming Lantern, and an advanced robotic fish. The museum's inaugural showcase highlighted the Belitung shipwreck cargo, featuring 9th-century Tang dynasty export goods, such as rare ceramics, silver and gold vessels, and bronze mirrors recovered from a sunken Arabian dhow. Beyond traditional gallery displays, the facility offers film screenings in its Cinema, immersive experiences in a dedicated VR Gallery, and interactive activities within the ArtScience Laboratory.
