Why Errachidia

Errachidia, previously named Ksar es-Souk, is an inland Moroccan city situated within the Errachidia Province. Serving as the regional capital of Drâa-Tafilalet, this settlement was renamed around 1975 to honor Moulay Rachid, who was the second son of King Hassan II. The former designation of the city translates to the fortified village of the market.

Positioned along the banks of the Ziz River, Errachidia forms part of the historical Tafilalt area. The surrounding district is particularly renowned for the production of Medjool dates. Geographically, the area experienced international visibility when it was included along the racing route for the Dakar Rally during both the 2006 and 2007 events.

According to the Köppen climate classification system, Errachidia features a hot desert climate. Temperatures in the city can reach extreme levels during the summer months, with an all-time record high of 43.9 °C (111.0 °F) logged on July 17, 2021.

Travelers accessing or departing the city are served by regional transport infrastructure, primarily through the nearby Moulay Ali Cherif Airport.
