Located near Nakasu-Kawabata Station in Fukuoka, Japan, Hakata-za Theatre is a premier venue for theatrical arts originally constructed in 1996. Operated as a public-private partnership, this versatile facility stands as one of the largest multipurpose theaters in Kyushu, seating up to 1,500 audience members. Remarkably, the massive stage area—with sleeves and depth roughly 1.5 times the audience seating—can even accommodate a full-scale helicopter for productions like Miss Saigon.

When planning your visit, look for special annual cultural events hosted at the theater. Every year, the Hakata Odori showcases traditional dance by local geishas from the Hakata Kenban association. Additionally, during June kabuki performances, actors take part in a ceremonial boat ride along the adjacent Hakata River, while the venue opens to the public every December.
