Welcome to the Hugh Lane Gallery, the world's first known public gallery of modern art. Located on Parnell Square in Dublin, Ireland, this free-admission museum is housed inside Charlemont House, a historic 1763 brick-fronted mansion designed by William Chambers. Operated by Dublin City Council, you will discover a grand building featuring a modern extension that is completely wheelchair-accessible.
Inside, you can explore an impressive collection of French masterpieces from the historic Lane Bequest, featuring renowned works by Auguste Renoir, Édouard Manet, Berthe Morisot, and Camille Pissarro. Beyond French art, you can view the reconstructed studio of Francis Bacon, which was dismantled in London and painstakingly rebuilt in 2001. You will also find a dedicated Sean Scully room, intriguing contemporary Irish art, and brilliant stained glass creations by Harry Clarke, including The Eve of St.
Agnes and a previously banned piece acquired in 2015. Be aware that the gallery closed on September 28, 2025, for major refurbishment. When open, this inspiring spot provides an unforgettable glance into global and Irish artistic heritage.
