Nestled within Jackson, Mississippi's historic 110-acre Livingston Park, the Jackson Zoo offers you a chance to observe wildlife from around the world and region. Established in 1919, it is the second largest zoo in the state, exhibiting roughly 250 individual animals across more than 120 species. As you explore the grounds, you will discover distinct geographic regions designed to transport you across continents.

Wander through the dense African Rainforest boardwalk to see pygmy hippos and chimpanzees, or gaze across the open plains of the African Savannah, home to southern white rhinoceroses, sable antelopes, and Grévy's zebras. Head over to the Asian Garden to view Sumatran tigers and Asian black bears, or explore Wilderness Mississippi to encounter local species like American alligators, river otters, and cougars. Beyond the animal habitats, the grounds feature historic landmarks constructed during the 1930s Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration, including the Monkey Castle and Elephant House Cafe.

Children and families can also take a spin on the uniquely designed Endangered Species Carousel, featuring carved tigers, leopards, and giraffes. It remains a historic local attraction showcasing global and regional creatures.
