Why Japeri
Japeri is a municipality situated in the state of Rio de Janeiro within the Southeast Region of Brazil. Founded on June 30, 1991, the town lies at the base of the Serra do Mar mountain range. The surrounding landscape is defined by several waterways, including the Guandu, Santana, Rio dos Poços, Rio D'Ouro, Santo Antonio, Ribeirão das Lages, and São Pedro rivers.
Historical growth in the area is closely tied to national rail development. A notable railway structure constructed in 1858 was later integrated into the Central do Brasil rail system in 1903. Japeri eventually became recognized for its location beside the final station on the largest branch of Brazil's railway network, an image that was even featured on domestic postage stamps. It served as the initial stop for trains traveling toward São Paulo, which included the well-known Trem de Prata, or Silver Train.
Today, visitors to the region can explore notable local amenities, such as the country's first public golf course. Situated within the district of Engenheiro Pedreira, this sports facility operates under the sponsorship of the Golf Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FGERJ).
