Why Mirihi

Mirihi is a compact island situated within the Alif Dhaal Atoll in the Maldives. Measuring roughly 300 meters in length by 50 meters in width, this small geographic feature is notable for its role in the region's resort development, having become a tourist island in 1989. It holds historical significance as the pioneering location for overwater bungalows in the country. The present-day resort infrastructure features 38 guest accommodations, which include six beach villas, 28 overwater villas, and two overwater suites.

A primary attraction of Mirihi is its well-preserved house reef, which is directly reachable from the shore. Since 1994, scuba diving operations on the island have been managed by Ocean-Pro Mirihi, a designated 5-star PADI dive center. The island's position provides convenient access to surrounding aquatic features, including the nearby Madivaru, also known as Manta Reef, where large populations of manta rays can be observed throughout the entire year.

Underwater sights around the island include a purpose-sunk vessel designed for recreational diving. In September 2000, a small trawler named Madi-ge, a local term translating to House of Rays, was scuttled near the house reef at a depth of 22 meters. Resting bow-down in the sandy sea floor, the wreck serves as an artificial reef structure that attracts various marine species, including glassfish, batfish, and jacks.
