Morcom Rose Garden 🇺🇸

Nestled in a natural bowl in an Oakland residential neighborhood near the Piedmont border, the Morcom Rose Garden offers a serene, Italian-inspired retreat. Originally opened in 1915 as Linda Vista Park, this historical space features formal designs conceived by landscape architect Arthur Cobbledick. As you explore, you will find thousands of roses—with more than 2,400 rose bushes in total—set against winding walkways, elegant rock walls, and terraced flower beds.

The garden is split into three main sections. Entering from Jean Street, you are greeted by a classical curved colonnade and a rose-lined walkway. Moving into the middle section, you can take in a reflecting pool encircled by rose beds, a Mediterranean-style loggia, an octagonal stone wedding terrace, and a dramatic 14-step hillside cascade fountain.

At the north end, the Florentine oval garden showcases terraced beds with stone stairways and paths that wend among surrounding trees. You can also walk along "The Mother's Walk," which connects the reflecting pool to the Florentine oval and features brass plaques honoring women from an annual Mother's Day ceremony tradition that began in 1954.
