It is your first time in Paris and you have three, maybe four days. The city holds hundreds of things to see — but a first trip is not the moment to chase all of them. These are the seven sights that define Paris, the ones worth your limited hours, and doing them well beats rushing a dozen.

Start with the icons you already picture when you think of the city. The Eiffel Tower is unmissable — book a summit slot weeks ahead, or simply admire it free from the Champ de Mars or Trocadéro at dusk. The Louvre is the world’s greatest museum and impossible to finish; pick two or three wings, book a timed ticket and go early. Many visitors quietly prefer the Musée d’Orsay across the river, where the finest Impressionist collection on earth hangs in a beautiful old railway station.

Then walk the historic heart. Notre-Dame and the Île de la Cité are free to visit again after the restoration — reserve a slot online to skip the queue. Climb the hill to Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur early in the morning, before the crowds, for the back-lane village feel and a sweeping panorama. For the best rooftop view in the city, climb the Arc de Triomphe: from up there the Eiffel Tower is in your photo, not behind you.

If you have a spare half-day, take the short train out to the Palace of Versailles — go first thing, do the gardens and avoid Tuesdays. Beyond the sights, Paris rewards slow wandering: a café crème in the morning, a riverside stroll at golden hour, a bakery on every corner. Each attraction guide below has tickets, opening hours and the honest verdict — use them to build a route that flows instead of zig-zagging across the city.
