The sculpture celebrates the historic nickname for Perm residents, which stems from the region's famous salt production industry. According to local legend, workers carrying heavy salt bags on their shoulders would absorb the salt into their skin, causing their ears to turn red and swell. Judged by "Russian World" magazine in 2009 as "the strangest" monument in Russia, this distinctive landmark offers a whimsical glimpse into local culture.
