If you are traveling through Nagpur, India, make sure to take in the impressive sights of the Ram Jhula Bridge. This modern marvel consists of two parallel cable-stayed railway over-bridges stretching 606.74 metres (1,990.6 feet) across the busy railway tracks north of the Nagpur Junction railway station. As you observe this engineering feat, you will see a fascinating blend of regional transit infrastructure, including six lanes of road traffic and the Blue Line of the Nagpur Metro, which runs directly along the centre of the bridge on its eastern side.

The current structure carries a rich local history, standing on the site of an original 1927 British-built bridge that connected Old Nagpur and New Nagpur across the Great Indian Peninsular Railway tracks. Following the expiration of the original bridge's service life, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and Afcons undertook a major reconstruction project starting in 2006. The result is a uniquely integrated transit corridor where multi-level construction allows the metro to run on an upper deck over the final 200 metres of the bridge.

It is an ideal spot to admire contemporary Indian infrastructure and urban planning in motion.
