Why Santo Antônio do Içá
Santo Antônio do Içá is a municipality and urban community situated in the western part of Amazonas state, Brazil. Positioned in relatively close proximity to the border with Colombia, this remote destination encompasses a expansive land area of 12,307 square kilometers and is home to a population of just over 21,000 residents.
The present-day municipality was officially established in 1955, having been formed from territory that originally belonged to the neighboring municipality of São Paulo de Olivença.
Nature and conservation form a central part of the area's landscape. The municipality includes the Javari-Buriti Area of Relevant Ecological Interest, a protected environmental zone established in 1985 that spans 15,000 hectares. Additionally, portions of the protected Jutaí-Solimões Ecological Station fall within the municipal boundaries, preserving local ecosystems.
Travelers accessing the region typically utilize air transport, with the city being serviced by the local Ipiranga Airport.
