Erected to honor the famous Develi-born Turkish folk poet Âşık Seyrani (1800–1866), this striking public statue has grown into a true symbol of the district. The monument was sculpted by Gürdal Duyar in 1976 after being commissioned by Develi Mayor Mehmet Özdemir and supported by local fundraising efforts initiated by a middle school principal and his students.
Standing 2.40 meters (7.9 feet) tall and weighing 3,000 kilograms (6,600 pounds), the bronze sculpture beautifully depicts Seyrani holding a traditional stringed instrument known as a Bağlama. Originally placed in front of the Çarşı Mosque in Cumhuriyet Square, the statue was later moved to the town's old market square during renovations. Today, you can find it prominently displayed in Aşık Seyrani Square.
