Located at the northern part of People's Square in Shanghai's Huangpu District, the Shanghai Grand Theatre is a striking, crystal-like performing arts complex that opened in 1998. Designed by French architect Jean-Marie Charpentier alongside the Institute of Architectural Design of Eastern China, this architectural landmark houses the Shanghai Opera House and serves as an urban cultural hub. You should visit to experience world-class entertainment ranging from traditional Chinese operas, ballets, and symphonies to international musicals and dramas.

Spanning eight floors above ground and two below, the building features three distinct venues to explore. Step inside the grand 1,631-seat Auditorium, decorated in warm gold and red, which hosts massive productions with its cutting-edge stage mechanics and surround sound. On the first floor, you will find the 575-seat Buick Theater, styled in warm walnut for chamber music and art education activities.

Up on the fifth floor, the dark-gray Studio Theater offers an intimate "black box" space with flexible seating for experimental plays. Beyond the stages, the complex features an exhibition hall, souvenir shop, coffee bar, and banquet hall, making it a complete cultural destination in the heart of the city.
