When you visit Berlin, you can discover the Soviet War Memorial located in the Großer Tiergarten park along Straße des 17. Juni. Erected in 1945 shortly after the city's capture, this striking site honors the Soviet Armed Forces, including 80,000 soldiers who died during the Battle of Berlin in April and May 1945.

It also serves as the final resting place for more than 2,000 fallen troops buried beneath the grounds. As you explore, you will see a curved stoa topped by a massive statue of a Soviet soldier whose arm stretches over the graves, along with columns built using stonework from the destroyed Reich Chancellery. The memorial is flanked by two Red Army ML-20 152mm howitzer-gun artillery pieces and two T-34 tanks, creating an unmissable historic presence.

Behind the main structure, you can browse an outdoor museum displaying construction photographs and information guiding you to other Berlin war memorials. Located in the heart of Berlin within clear sight of the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate, it offers a deeply reflective experience where active VE Day commemorations take place every May 8th. You will find it a compelling, convenient stop to reflect on World War II history.
