Step into history at the Church of St. Giragos (Surp Giragos Church) in Diyarbakır, Turkey, recognized as the largest Armenian church in the Middle East. Dating back to at least 1515–1518, this historic Armenian Apostolic church has survived a long past, including rebuilds after an 1880 fire, military use during World War I, decades of neglect, and a 2016 government expropriation. Following extensive renovations, it officially reopened to the public on May 7, 2022.

When you visit, you will witness a fascinating architectural layout. Devitating from traditional Armenian church designs, St. Giragos features a hypostyle format with a flat roof supported by three rows of arches and 16 monolithic columns that create four transverse naves. The layout is remarkably unique for containing seven altars—five along the ground floor's eastern wall and two on the second level, which historically served as a space for women.

Outdoors, you can admire the arched portico, the bell tower, and an expansive compound featuring three courtyards, a residence, wells, and a Patriarchate building. It stands today as a powerful place of reflection, heritage, and community reconciliation.
