Located in the Yuexiu District of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, Xianxian Mosque is a remarkable historic site to add to your China itinerary. Recognized as the largest mosque in Guangzhou, its origins trace back to the Tang dynasty (r. 618–690 CE), with traditions attributing its founding to the Muslim companion (Sahabi) Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (c.

595–674), who is also associated with the city's Huaisheng mosque. Xianxian Mosque is historically referred to as the Hui-hui cemetery, as it served as a burial ground honoring 40 famous Arabic Muslim missionaries. When you visit, you will encounter impressive Ming dynasty architectural styling across the 1,860-square-meter grounds.

The complex features 1,077 square meters of constructed area, encompassing a two-story main prayer hall that can accommodate 1,000 worshipers, alongside a pavilion and wing rooms. As you explore the grounds, you can enjoy a scenic garden-style interior lush with trees and flowers, making it a peaceful stop during your travels.
