Legoland California Resort is located in Carlsbad, California, approximately 35 miles north of San Diego. Opening on March 20, 1999, it was the first Legoland theme park built outside of Europe. The resort site is currently owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments, which acquired a controlling interest in 2005 alongside a thirty percent ownership share held by Lego. Visitors travelling to southern California can easily reach the park in Carlsbad, which forms part of a larger resort complex.
The resort features over 60 rides, shows, and attractions spread across distinct Lego-themed areas, alongside the standalone Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Water Park. The park is laid out into diverse themed lands including Dino Valley, The LEGO Movie World, Fun Town, LEGO Galaxy, Miniland USA, Castle Hill, Imagination Zone, Pirate Shores, Land of Adventure, and LEGO Ninjago World. Central to the park is Miniland USA, surrounding a 1.73-acre lake featuring 1:20 scale model architecture.
Legoland California is famous for its family coasters, interactive dark rides, hands-on building areas, and water attractions. Signature experiences range from the flying theatre of Emmet's Flying Adventure to hands-on dark rides like Ninjago: The Ride, along with 4-D movies at the LEGO Show Place theater.
