Located 20 kilometers south of Oslo, Norway, Tusenfryd is set on a hilly, forested 55-acre site near where the E6 and E18 motorways meet. Built on land that previously belonged to a zoo from 1950 to 1985, the park was developed by entrepreneurs Tor Erling Pettersen and Terje Buer. It officially opened on June 11, 1988, after an 18-month construction period. Today, Tusenfryd is owned by Madrid-based Parques Reunidos S.A. and managed by CEO Bjørn Håvard Solli.
The park welcomes roughly 500,000 visitors annually and features 34 attractions. While it is not fully divided into specifically themed areas, it includes distinct sections such as Morgan Kane Town, Vikingland, and Fairy Tale Land. Guests enter the park via a unique escalator ride traveling uphill through one of the loops of the Speed Monster roller coaster. The forested terrain features flower beds and involves a significant amount of uphill walking for guests navigating between attractions.
Tusenfryd offers a diverse mix of attractions suitable for families, children, and thrill-seekers alike. Key thrill rides visible from the nearby motorway include SpeedMonster, SuperSplash, SpinSpider, ThunderCoaster, and SpaceShot. Additionally, the park features dark rides like Thor's Hammer, family flat rides, and the Badefryd water park area. As the only amusement park accessible to Oslo residents for a single-day trip, it serves as a popular regional attraction.
