Shakopee Bridge 🇺🇸

Connecting Chanhassen and downtown Shakopee, the Shakopee Bridge carries Scott County Road 101 traffic across the Minnesota River. Opened in 1993, this four-lane vehicular crossing sits just one city block downstream from its predecessor. That older two-lane structure remains standing today as a dedicated pedestrian and bicycle bridge.

Known locally as the Holmes Street Bridge, it offers a historic element to your visit as it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When visiting, you can enjoy a scenic walk or ride across the historic bridge while viewing the adjacent modern river crossing. The surrounding river valley area also holds a unique piece of local history tied to natural events.

Just north of the bridge, you can check out a historic sign displaying the high-water marks from the major Minnesota River floods of 1965 and 1993. While flooding historically caused occasional road closures north of the crossing, a new elevated bridge project completed on County Road 101 in 2016 was built to greatly reduce these flood-related disruptions. It is a great quick stop for anyone interested in regional infrastructure, local history, and scenic river views.
