Welcome to the Hunan Museum, the premier provincial museum of Hunan located in Changsha, China, right next to the Revolutionary Martyr's Park on Dongfeng Lu. Originally built in 1951 and opened in 1956, this cultural treasure house underwent a massive modernization designed by the China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, reopening its doors in November 2017. Spanning an impressive expansive footprint, the museum offers travelers a deep dive into ancient Chinese heritage.

Inside, you will discover a vast world-class collection featuring more than 180,000 historic objects. The absolute highlight of your visit includes the remarkable relics unearthed from the famous Mawangdui tombs, which belonged to the Marquis of Dai and his wife, Lady Xin Zhui. As you explore the modern 91,000-square-metre building space, you will encounter thousands of years of regional history, intricate artifacts, and fascinating archaeological finds that make Hunan's vibrant past come alive.
